Working Minds: The Current Statistics of the Irish Marketing Field

This is a writing sample. I was tasked with compiling a small report and turn it into a blog post for a small company in Dublin. Given that this is a sample of my content writing, the name of the company will be changed.

In this new blog post, James T LLC seeks to inform you of the latest trend, and the current statistics on Marketing and its related fields in Ireland. We hope that you find this educational content as noteworthy as James T LLC Recruitment Consulting has. The point of posts such as this is to keep learning within this industry, in order to continue the good practices and implementation of customized searches of solid hired talent in this country.

Let us begin by taking a look at how many professionals are currently in the marketing and marketing related fields in Ireland alone. The number stands at 8,204 professionals, with a 0.3% growth, which goes accordingly with the statistical predictions made by Jones Recruitment Consulting. The Marketing profession is on the rise, and it is essential to take an in-depth observation as to what the present statistics inform us, and perhaps think even bigger...What draws these professionals to that specific industry?

We are not philosophers, but every now and then we do like to ponder these types of questions. Jones Connects is a place where we not only discuss actual events in our profession, but also figuratively delve into the cognitive thought process that drive the professionals we seek out. By understanding their motivations and aspirations, we can better help them achieve their dreams. As well as help the companies we work for achieve their goals.

At the moment, we must indicate that a very interesting point and significant of our times is the fact that almost 60% of these professionals are female. It is also worthy to note that the demand for these professionals is very high. The more growth is accomplished by companies, the more they seem to realize that an in-house marketing team is the ideal working scenario. If you have an in-house marketing team or single marketing professional, you are saving costs by not needing to hire a third-party agency. The truth is that you can possibly get personalized work. One can almost say more cohesive work, because of the closeness and loyalty towards of that group and/or individual towards the company.

So, why do women seem to show more interest and capabilities in the marketing field? According to the Irish Times, this opinion was issued by female heads of marketing positions: “Marketing is a job where you have to multitask, and women have a particular capability in that department.” Adding, “Women are also good with project management, so we can work on the TV ad at the same time as locking down iterations of online ads and various on-pack executions. Women’s intuition is also useful, particularly for researching consumer insights. Women also tend to be more diplomatic generally, which helps when you are trying to navigate departments to get a job done. I would also say women are better at the emotional connection

with a brand.”

In knowing this, it is important to also mention that the majority of women in the marketing

profession are coming to Ireland predominantly from London, and India.

Now that you have a better idea as to why this phenomenon could be, let’s talk about facts that pertain to the Irish working force. It has come to our attention that the schools producing the most marketing talent here in Ireland are:

  • Technological University Dublin

  • University College Dublin

  • Digital Marketing Institute

  • Dublin City University

  • Dublin Business School

These are all excellent schools of great reputation. This data is helpful in the sense that it allows us to keep an extra eye of sorts on graduate students from these institutions. The reason being is that these institutions have a history of producing great and extremely effective professionals in the field. Be open minded to other international collegiate, of course.

Speaking of fields, we are now going to move on to the top fields that these students are selecting. That would be:

  • Marketing

  • Business Administration and Marketing

  • Business/Commerce

  • Mass Communication/Media Studies

  • Marketing/Marketing Management

According to the Harvard Business Review, what makes marketing special is that, “Marketing’s transformation is driven by the enormous power and ubiquitous spread of technology. The creation of almost unlimited customer choice represents a threat—particularly when choice is accompanied by new competitors. Twenty years ago, IBM had only 20 competitors; today it faces more than 5,000. Several decades ago, there were sales-driven companies.

These organizations focused their energies on changing customers’ minds to fit the product—practicing the “any color as long as it’s black” school of marketing. As technology developed and competition increased, some companies shifted their approach and became customer driven. These companies expressed a new willingness to change their product to fit customers’ requests—practicing the “tell us what color you want” school of marketing.”

This information was spread in 1991, yes, you heard right. Marketing today is a by-product of the changes it went through in the 90’s, and as the world has advanced technologically speaking even more in the following years, you can imagine the need to create great all rounded, skilled marketing practitioners. Academia makes sure to produce such results with a rigorous, broad curriculum.

Furthermore, because marketing has become prevalent in today’s world, titles offered to

marketers have evolved. You will find that the top most common titles are:

  • Marketing Manager

  • Head of Marketing

  • Sales Marketing Manager

  • Marketing Director

  • Marketing Executive

  • Brand Manager

  • Digital Marketing Manager

Nonetheless, the new fastest growing titles in this professional environment have expanded to titles such as:

  • Chief Revenue Officer

  • Senior Category Manager

  • Head of Growth

  • Activation Manager

  • Digital Director

The type of companies looking to hire in these positions varies in their industry. However, we would be remiss if we did not also talk about the top companies hiring positions like these ones. The top companies that James T LLC Recruitment has observed as of late are:

  • Google

  • Accenture

  • Facebook

  • Diageo

  • AIB

  • Bank of Ireland

  • Musgrave

  • Kellogg Company

  • Primark

  • Office of Government Procurement

We have seen a growth percentage from 2.6 % to 14.3% hiring habits. For the time being, this is what can be gathered from current data.
